Horticulturist- Raleigh

We are looking for a skilled and proactive Horticulturist to oversee and maintain an award-winning, high-profile site in the Raleigh area. This role requires a keen eye for detail, exceptional time management, and a deep understanding of sustainable, native landscape management.

This property is home to the largest collection of native plantings at a commercial site in the region. As a non-irrigated landscape, it demands a horticulturist who understands how to support plant health and biodiversity while balancing the unique challenges of an urban environment. This includes ensuring aesthetic excellence, plant vitality, and public safety in a highly visible setting with frequent pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

 

The ideal candidate will:

Develop and manage a strategic maintenance calendar that aligns with best horticultural practices.
Monitor plant health, soil conditions, and overall landscape performance.
Implement sustainable maintenance techniques that enhance biodiversity and resilience.
Work collaboratively with site stakeholders to ensure the landscape remains a thriving, functional, and visually striking space.
Demonstrate expertise in the comprehensive care of trees, shrubs, perennials, and annual flowers, encompassing tasks such as pruning, deadheading, integrated pest management, mulching, fertilizing, and other seasonal activities, regardless of weather conditions.
Serve as a strong communicator, adept at engaging with the public, clients, and collaborating seamlessly with management teams and crews.
Safely operate and maintain all tools and equipment required for horticultural tasks.
 

Requirements:

An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Horticultural Science OR industry certification such as NCNLA Certified Plant Professional, coupled with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in maintaining intricate horticultural gardens or landscapes.
Possession of an NC Pesticide Applicator’s License, or the ability to acquire one within 90 days of hire.
A valid NC Driver’s License with a clean record.
Proficiency in performing all aspects of seasonal care for properties, including pruning, weeding, mulching, pest management, hand watering, fertilization, flower installation and care, leaf removal, clean up of trash and debris, snow and ice removal.
Excellent knowledge of pruning techniques for shrubs and small trees, encompassing structural, aesthetic, and corrective techniques based on season and plant type.
Strong working knowledge of integrated pest management techniques, including pest identification, beneficial insects, chemicals, non-chemical methods, sprayer calibration, and accurate record-keeping.
Ability to work in all weather conditions, demonstrating resilience in hot, cold, rainy, windy, and snowy weather.

$45,000-$60,000 salary
