Myatt Landscaping & Construction High School Internship
Purpose
Myatt Landscaping Concepts will select up to two (2) full-time high school interns per year. The purpose of the internship is to benefit the student(s) by:
1) Introducing intern(s) to the day-to-day operations of a landscape company
2) Providing hands-on training in the selected areas of the company
3) Providing a full-time paid work experience for the intern(s)
The internship will benefit the company by:
1) Increasing awareness of job opportunities for high school graduates
2) Advancing our reputation in the local community as a supporter of education
3) Providing additional labor resources in the summer and building a pipeline for moving graduates into full-time jobs
Essential Activities and Job Functions – Field Intern
Duration: June – August, 2025
Pay rate: $12.00/hr
Supervisors: Herbie Champion (installation), Ryan Kimbro, Misty Gil (internship program coordination)
Dress code: Myatt T-shirts (provided), khaki work pants or long shorts (both available through uniform rental company for small weekly fee or bring your own), work boots or sturdy hiking shoes, hats are allowed
Internship Schedule:
First Day – June TBD
Late day & final evaluation – August TBD
Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to stand, reach, stoop, squat, bend, twist, and kneel for extended periods of time. Lifting requirements up to 50 lbs. For safety, intern(s) must be able to hear vehicles or equipment approaching. Age must be at least 16 years old at the start date of the internship.
Academic/Soft Skill Requirements:
Ideally, intern(s) will have taken horticulture or agriculture classes in high school, or show a strong interest in the field. Preference will go to intern(s) who express a desire to work in the landscape industry after graduation. GPA should be at least 2.5.

Essential activities/job functions – Training will be provided for each item
Installation:
- Maintaining a clean job site
- Preparing turf areas and planting beds
- Planting trees and shrubs, including staking and installing mulch or pine straw
- Laying sod
- Proper use of hand tools and some small power tools
- Excavation and prep work for drainage and hardscaping
Maintenance:
- Weed identification and removal
- Edging beds and installing mulch or pine straw
- Proper use of power equipment (string trimmer, edger, blower, push mower)
- Introduction to hand pruning
Outcomes & Learning Objectives
The intern(s) will become proficient in:
- Operating standard equipment
- Identification of approx. 50 plant species and cultivars
- Daily tasks consistent with working on a crew, such as loading and unloading materials, tool and vehicle maintenance, and following directions to reach a common goal
The intern(s) will gain understanding of:
- The standard processes of an installation or maintenance project
- How the crew’s execution of daily tasks affects the entire company
- Roles and opportunities within the landscape industry
- The importance of proper grading and how it affects water flow
- How proper maintenance practices affect the health of the landscape and overall environment
