Constellation Park is part of the large community HOA landscape that we built and manage in Chapel Hill. It is a public park designed with an astronomy theme that incorporates the natural boulders from the site. Moving the boulders into place and carefully grading the land to provide both attractions and walking paths was our first step. Next, we constructed the main destination - a large stargazing area including sitting walls built from the native stone found on site, a large open lawn area for spreading picnic blankets, and a concrete pad for setting up large telescopes. Visitors can interact with the vista viewers, climb on the large boulders, and enjoy the boxwood shrubs that are planted in the shape of several famous constellations. The ornamental trees, flowering shrubs, and perennials that we planted add seasonal beauty and attract native wildlife and pollinators.
